About
One person. Charlottesville.
When you call, you get the person who builds your site.
Monticello Web Design is Wylan, in Charlottesville, Virginia. I build websites: small ones, large ones, and anything in between.
Every site is built from scratch for the business it belongs to. No templates.
Charlottesville and Albemarle County, and further when it makes sense.
Meet the person who builds it
I'm Wylan. I build every site myself, in Charlottesville.
I'm local, not a call center. If you would rather talk in person, I'll come to your shop.
When you call, you get me.
Questions people ask
How much does a website cost?
With me: Essential from $999 + $200/mo, Professional from $2,999 + $350/mo, Flagship from $9,999 + custom care plan. Every price is a starting point, and you get a firm number in writing before any work begins.
What can go wrong with a website?
The usual problems: it gets slow, nobody updates it, and when you want to leave you cannot take it with you. The monthly covers updates and two small changes a month, I build for speed, and your domain, words and photos are yours to take.
How do you compare with a website builder or a larger agency?
A builder costs less up front and you do the work. An agency brings a team and a larger bill. I sit between: one local person, built from scratch, with prices on the page. There is a side-by-side table on the pricing page.
Why are there no reviews on your site?
Because I am new, and I will not invent any. Instead: open the concept builds on your phone, run the free check-up on your own site, and ask for a free sample before you pay anything. When real customers have something to say, it will go here, with their permission.
Are you the best web designer in Charlottesville?
I would not say that about myself, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Judge the work: open the concept builds, and ask for a free sample of your own site.
Who owns my website?
Your domain, your logo, your photos, your words and your customer data are yours. The code and design system underneath stay mine; you are licensed to use them for as long as we work together.
What happens if I leave?
I move your domain into your own account within ten business days of you asking, and you can ask for a copy of your site's content.
What does the monthly fee cover?
Hosting, your domain's renewal, the security certificate, uptime monitoring, security updates, backups, and up to two small changes a month.
What counts as a small change?
New hours, a phone number, adding or removing a service, swapping a photo, a staff change. New pages, redesigns and new features are quoted separately before any work starts.
Is there a contract?
Yes, a short one in plain language. It runs for twelve months from launch, then month to month, and ends with thirty days' written notice. Ending it inside the first twelve months means paying the months that remain.
How do I pay?
Half of the setup price when you sign. The other half when the site goes live. The monthly starts at launch.
Do I have to write the text myself?
No. I write it and you check it.
What do you need from me?
Your logo if you have one, photos, and a list of your services.
Will my site be at the top of Google?
Nobody can honestly promise that, and I do not. I build the site so Google can read it properly and so it loads fast, which are the parts a website controls.
What is the crew app?
A simple app for your own crew: today's jobs, job-site photos, notes on the customer. It keeps records. It never takes payments, runs payroll or holds card details. It is an add-on, priced separately.
Do you work with businesses outside Charlottesville?
Yes. Charlottesville and Albemarle County are home, and I work further afield when it makes sense.
Why does your own homepage look like three different websites?
Because it is. Each section is built the way that tier would be built for you, so you can see what you are choosing between.
